OrderedNews.com FAQ
OrderedNews.com FAQ

OrderedNews.com Frequently Asked Questions.

What is OrderedNews.com?
OrderedNews.com is an on-line News Reader. It enables you to read the news from all the major news providers and many more specialist sites all in one place. The feeds are categorised for easy browsing and you can subscribe to your favourite news feeds to appear on your personal front page whenever you visit the site.
Does it cost anything?
No, it's free.
What is My Front Page?
Whenever you vist OrderedNews.com, 'My Front Page' is the page which is first displayed. You decide what is on it by subscribing to feeds from our categories or providing the URL yourself using the blue box at the top right of the page (and choosing to subscribe to it).
What else can I do?
You can also save stories to refer back to, and easily find stories you have read recently. You can access these stories from the drop down list under 'My Front Page'. We also have an archive which you can search to find stories for specific keywords, and you can browse our feed archives to find earlier stories.
What if I'm looking for something specific?
You can highlight all occurences of a word or phrase by entering in the blue box at the top right and clicking on 'highlight'. Or if you regularly look for the same time you could add the word or phrase as a watch word.
Anything else?
We also have an archive which you can search to find stories for specific keywords, and you can browse our feed archives to find earlier stories.
What is a 'Watch Word'?
A 'Watch Word' is a word or phrase that you provide that you are interested in. Any stories that contain that word or phrase will be boxed in red to highlight them to you. You can specify up to 20 watch words. Just click on the 'Manage Watch Words' link at the top of the site.
What are 'Filter Words'?
'Filter Words' work like watch words except that any stories that contain them will be hidden from you. You can use these to suppress topics that you are not interested in.
Can I hide feeds I'm not interested in?
Yes, just click on the 'Hide' link under the feed name. You can see all feeds at any time by simply checking the 'Show Hidden Feeds' box at the top of the site - you can then unhide any of them by using the 'Unhide' link. Hiding feeds that you are not interested in will significantly speed up your reading of the news.
Can I hide stories I'm not interested in?
Yes, just click on the 'Hide' link under the story. You can see all the stories you have recently hidden in the 'Recently Hidden' category under 'My Front Page'. You can then 'Unhide' them individually if you change your mind.
Some Categories in Ordered News are very broad. What's the easiest way to navigate around them?
OrderedNews.com provides a lot of news on one page. To navigate around it we recommend a few methods: first, if your mouse has a center button (often a wheel), try pressing it (gently if a wheel). Often this will activate a scroll mode where moving the mouse around scrolls the page. This works very well on this site. If your mouse does not support this method, we also provide two more tools to help you. Checking the 'AutoScroll' box at the top of the page will cause the page to scroll whenever you near the edge. This is a very effortless way to scroll the page in all directions just by moving the mouse (this works best in Firefox). Alternativily (some find 'AutoScroll' distracting) you can check the 'NaviPointers' box next to the AutoScroll option. 'NaviPointers' provides small blue action buttons when you near the edge of the screen. Clicking on these will scroll the page one screen at a time, and double clicking will move to the top, bottom, left, or right of the page respectivily. We...
Why does it sometimes take a while to download some categories of news?
OrderedNews.com has to get the latest feed for every feed in a category. Some categories contain a lot of feeds and this can take some time, but there are things that you can do to improve your experience. Hiding feeds you have no interest in will also help a lot as the time to display the page is proportional to the number of feeds. We also strongly recommend using the Firefox browser. This is because it will display the first feeds before the entire page is downloaded. This means that the feeds fly into your browser in quick succession, whereas Internet Explorer will not show you any feeds until the last one has been downloaded creating a longer wait than necessary. It also handles many of the more sophisticated functions of this site better than Internet Explorer, giving a superior user experience. It's absolutely free.
Can I make the text bigger?
Yes, most browsers provide an option to make the text bigger (to make it easier to read) or smaller (so you can see more on the screen). We take care to ensure that our content will resize based on your preference. The option to change the text varies by browser but is normally on the View menu of the browser window.
Can I use a popup blocker?
Yes, we encourage the use of a popup blocker, however please allow OrderedNews.com to display popups as we use popups for displaying the links for each story so if you block popups on our site you will not see the fully story when you click on a link. We also use popups for adding a site or for search results so that you can continue to browse the news. We DO NOT use any popup advertising or forced navigation. We cannot guarantee the same for all news feed providers so we recommend the use of a popup blocker before clicking on the links to any stories.
Why can't I log in?
OrderedNews.com needs cookies to operate. We use cookies to remember who you are logged in as. It is posisble that cookies have been disabled in your browser. Please check the security settings of your browser.
What is your privacy policy?
Our privacy policy can be read here.
Who owns the copyright for the feeds and can I re-use them?
OrderedNews.com aggregates news feeds from other sites. All feeds remain the property of their respective owners and copyright remains with them. Please see the site associated with the feed for further information concerning re-use or terms and conditions of use. This is normally accessible by clicking on the header logo, or by following a story link and browsing the publishing web site.
I own a feed. Can I add it to your site?
Yes, just enter the URL (including 'HTTP://') in the blue box at the top of the page and click on 'Add Feed'.
I own a feed. Can I have it removed from your site?
Yes, OrderedNews.com does not intentionally host feeds which the owners have asked us not too. There is a link to remove a feed at the bottom of each feed. In order to protect feed owners from malious removal we do contact them before removing a feed. We keep a records of removed feeds to ensure they are no re-added later.
Why do you carry advertising?
We provide the service for free. We carry advertising to fund the cost of the site. However we have chosen advertising partners to provide relevant links and advertisements that we hope you will find useful.
